I have a Nikon D40 with a lens with a little bit harder to find.

What is a good sturdy tripod will cost several hundred dollars?

I think, make Gitzo bow and some of the best stands. They are not cheap, but keep them for a lifetime. To make a better offer from aluminum instead of carbon storage and utilization

Tripods are pretty standard and weight restrictions in the box would be the best option, at an event, proceed as Best Buy or Wal-Mart

Bite the Bullet "and can afford to buy the best. You will not regret it, it will last much longer. I had an old Manfrotto bought for about $ 25. I took a day and now my head is, because the plastic cracked. I have a Bogen Manfrotto works wonderfully. The construction is solid, so I doubt that will last long.
